An 18th century needlework picture

Probably French.

Finely worked in wool, in tent stitch, with a Chinese official carried in an ornately decorated palanquin by two attendants, and flanked by two fenghuang, or hoho birds, on a parchment coloured ground set with Bizarre motifs. Mounted on a stretcher backed with wool moreen.

90.8cm (35¾”) high and 68.5cm (27”) wide.
