18th century French needlework chair seat and back

Circa 1730.

Worked in silk and wool in cross stitch and petit point. The chair back with the goddess Flora seated with her attendants, a putto holding a garland above her while others garden, the seat with a ho-ho bird and other fantastical animals, all amid profusely flowering trees on an umber ground.

With minor restorations.

The back 76cm (30”) high and 62cm (24⅜”) wide.

The seat 69.5cm (27⅜”) deep and 76cm (30”) wide.
