Two lengths of French silk lampas

Circa 1760

The warp-patterned taffeta with repeating sprays of flowers in blue, plum, green, and rose. The V & A has a silk of similar, although more conventionally weft-patterned, design, accession number 1002-1877.

The shorter length cut and shaped, the longer consisting of two equal pieces with some faint stains and small holes, and the marks of a removed braid.

145cm (57”) long and 49cm (19¼”) wide, and 298cm (117¼”) long and 49cm (19¼”) wide.
