An early 18th century English needlework picture

Circa 1710-1730

Worked in silk and wool in petit point with a corn marigold and tulip, carnations, roses, forget-me-nots, campion, honeysuckle and bindweed; tied with a red ribbon as a posy on a diaper patterned white silk satin stitch ground, the lattice in pale blue silk.

A needlework picture of a similar type is illustrated in the Cora Ginsburg catalogue for Winter 2001, on page 4, with another in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession number: 269-1893.

Provenance: The private collection of Margaret Susands, of Michael Foster Ltd, 118 Fulham Road.

The needlework 66.7cm (26¼”) high and 56.5cm (22¼”) wide.

The frame 70.7cm (27⅞”) high and 60.7cm (23⅞”) wide.
