A panel of crewelwork

English, circa 1670-1690

With large flowers, leaves and stylised pomegranates issuing from curving branches and embroidered in wool in a variety of stitches, including stem, brick, long and short, bullion, satin, raised fishbone, chain, French knots and speckling, on a linen twill ground. With restorations.

Provenance: Newton Surmaville House, Somerset.

Bordered with velvet, and mounted on a stretcher 56m (22”) high and 94.2cm (37⅛”) wide.
